UX Leader at an Ivy League University Applies Rigorous Research Methodologies to Achieve Outstanding Human Experiences
As Associate Director, User Experience (UX), Bernard is responsible for all aspects of UX at Columbia University Information Technology (CUIT). He is currently working on multiple enterprise-level projects at Columbia, including the Columbia Design System and the new Student Information System (SIS). Bernard started the Center of Excellence for Usability and Experience Design two years ago. The center's mission is to partner with cross-functional teams to collaborate on and create human-centered design. He also co-founded the UX Community of Practice to empower the Columbia community to apply usability, design, and accessibility methodologies to their projects.
As the scope of UX continues to grow and evolve, Bernard's vision is to move beyond designing a single channel experience to exploring the omnichannel experience across all touchpoints in the customer journey.
While his work at Columbia continues to be challenging and exciting, his ultimate goal is to work in a team-based environment that supports his mission to create simple, usable, and accessible products. By providing excellent services and design, Bernard seeks to employ his best leadership, strategy, and execution skills to deliver products that support an organization’s mission. Best summarized by Jack Welch, “Before you are a leader, success is all about growing yourself. When you become a leader, success is all about growing others.”
